Nuclear Watchdogs Returning to Iran
Renewed contacts with Iran will be aimed at substantiating suspicions that it is developing a nuclear weapons, the top nuclear watchdog said.
“What we know suggests the development of nuclear weapons,” Yukia Amano, the director of the U.N.’s International Atomic Energy Agency, said Thursday in an interview with Financial Times Deutschland, translated and reported by Reuters. “We want to check over everything that could have a military dimension.”
Iran has invited IAEA inspectors to tour later this month after a long hiatus, reportedly because the Iranians are seeking to reopen dialogue with the West in the wake of intensified sanctions triggered by its suspected nuclear weapons program.
