An ultra-Orthodox man on his way to the Western Wall for morning prayers was attacked by an axe-wielding Arab youth near the Damascus Gate.
Police reportedly found the man, 55, at the scene, bleeding heavily from his head; he also had injuries to his midsection. He reportedly told police he struggled with and fought off the attacker. He was taken by ambulance to Hadassah-Ein Kerem for treatment.
The attacker fled the scene, but left the axe behind, according to reports. A police manhunt has been ongoing.
