Brooklyn Businessman Accused of Stiffing Workers

The Jewish owner of a Brooklyn cleaning service has been charged with withholding pay from his employees.

Samuel Just, 21, the owner of Just Clean was arraigned in Brooklyn Criminal Court Thursday on charges including scheme to defraud and failure to pay wages, after the Workers Justice Project filed a complaint with the Brooklyn District Attorney’s Office, the New York Daily News reported.

“This defendant allegedly preyed on vulnerable people seeking employment, then cheated them out of their hard-earned wages,” Brooklyn District Attorney Ken Thompson said, according to the Daily News.

Prosecutors said five employees, including a man whose job it was to pick up day laborers from a Williamsburg intersection, were not paid consistently. Just owes more than $4,500 in back wages, they said.

One of the employees, a woman who prosecutors say is owed $2,300, allegedly worked 27 hours straight during Passover and did not get paid.
