Al Franken Signs $1M Book Deal on Years in Congress

Sen. Al Franken signed a deal to write a non-fiction book about his years in Congress.

The deal is for at least $1 million, the the Huffington Post reported, citing sources close to the process.

Franken is a second-term Democratic senator from Minnesota and a former writer and performer on “Saturday Night Live.” He is also a best-selling author of “Rush Limbaugh is a Big Fat Idiot” and “Lies And the Lying Liars Who Tell Them: A Fair and Balanced Look at the Right.”

Franken was first elected to the Senate in a close race in 2008, and was reelected in 2014 in a landslide victory.

Franken is being represented in the deal by Bob Barnett, who handles book deals for Washington political figures. It will be published by Twelve, a division of Hachette Book Group.

Barnett told the Huffington Post that the pitch meetings for the book “were some of the most entertaining and productive publishing meetings I have attended.”
