Welcome to this special, brief edition of Jane Looking Forward.
By the time you receive this newsletter, I will already be at the Museum of Jewish Heritage in Manhattan, preparing for hundreds of guests to arrive at the Forward’s 120th anniversary gala.
It’s been a whirlwind few days for me — I arrived home from Israel on Friday, attended meetings of the Forward Association and Board of Directors yesterday, and then got ready for tonight. That’s why this will be a brief newsletter, with lots more to come next week.
If you aren’t lucky enough to attend our celebration — and I’m proud to say that we sold out! — my colleague Jeffrey Boxer will be posting live on Twitter and Instagram; follow him at #ForwardAt120. And you can read this delightful interview with our gala host, the brilliant, funny actress and activist, Fran Drescher.
Hosting this sort of celebration is new for us, and our offices have been buzzing with excitement all day. For me, the chance to both celebrate our amazing history, and focus on the true power and necessity of fearless journalism, is a reminder of what a privilege it is to be associated with the Forward.
I hope you agree.
I’ve had lots of warm responses to Jane Looking Forward. If you’d like to invite someone to this newsletter community, here’s the link to sign-up. Thank you!

I hope you appreciated this article. Before you go, I’d like to ask you to please support the Forward.
Now more than ever, American Jews need independent news they can trust, with reporting driven by truth, not ideology. We serve you, not any ideological agenda.
At a time when other newsrooms are closing or cutting back, the Forward has removed its paywall and invested additional resources to report on the ground from Israel and around the U.S. on the impact of the war, rising antisemitism and polarized discourse.
This is a great time to support independent Jewish journalism you rely on. Make a gift today!
