Serving Up Sephardic Film
Calling all film buffs! The 11th annual New York Sephardic Jewish Film Festival opens this week, with New York premieres of feature films, documentaries, panel discussions and events. This year’s theme is Sephardic Voices in Israeli Cinema.
The series opens with Dina Zvi-Riklis’s “Three Mothers” (in Hebrew, French and Arabic with English subtitles). The film travels from King Farouk’s Egypt to present-day Israel and explores the mysterious secret pasts of adult triplet sisters. Also on the program is Dan Turgeman’s “Sweet Something” (in Hebrew with English subtitles), a story of a love triangle between a Moroccan Jewish pastry chef, her younger sister, engaged to be married, and her sister’s fiance. American Sephardi Federation With Sephardic House presents the festival. Screenings will be shown at the JCC in Manhattan and at the Center for Jewish History.
