Paying Tribute to ‘The Boss’

A lineup of some of the biggest names in the music biz will be feting none other than The Boss himself. In a charity tribute concert slated for April 7 at New York City’s Carnegie Hall, Jewel, Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds and guitar legend Steve Earle will all sing Bruce Springsteen classics for a good cause: the UJA-Federation of New York’s Music for Youth initiative, which raises funds for music education programs targeting underprivileged youth.

Produced by concert impresario Michael Dorf (founder of NYC’s famed Knitting Factory), this year’s concert follows on the heels of two federation gala benefits honoring Joni Mitchell and Bob Dylan.

So will Springsteen make an appearance to celebrate his prolific playbook? Probably not, says Charlie Feldman, chair of UJA-Federation’s Music for Youth committee and a vice president at the performance rights organization BMI. “If he decides to show up, that would be a great bonus,” Feldman said. Still, he notes that both the Mitchell and the Dylan tributes were sold out despite the fact that both legends stayed home.
