ZOA Lobbies Congress To Back Israel

Zionist Organization of America activists lobbied members of Congress to prevent a nuclear Iran and to cut assistance to the Palestinian Authority.

As part of the ZOA’s annual advocacy mission to Washington, D.C., members from 15 states around the country on Wednesday urged Congress to keep Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon, to stop sending foreign assistance to the Palestinian Authority until it fulfills its obligations to stop violence against Israel and to support the relocation of the American embassy to Jerusalem.

During a luncheon held prior to the meetings with lawmakers, ZOA activists listened to speeches from various members of the U.S. House of Representatives and Senate.

In his remarks, House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-Va.) emphasized that “Israel’s security is inextricably tied to the security of the United States.”

“Now more than ever, our ally needs us to stand tall,” Cantor said according to a ZOA press statement. “We need to provide a very definite stance that we’re not going to tolerate a nuclear Iran.”

In addition, Rep. Shelley Berkley (D-N.V.), who is also a candidate for the U.S. Senate seat in Nevada, criticized those that believed building apartments in eastern Jerusalem was “an impediment to peace.”

“It’s the Palestinians who are the impediment to peace,” Berkley told the ZOA activists.
