Gentleman’s Agreement
Alongside revelations of sordid text messages to House pages, followers of the Mark Foley scandal learned last week of his longstanding but discreet relationship with dermatologist Layne Nisenbaum, the “Botox king” of Palm Beach, Fla. According to the Palm Beach Post, it was customary for Foley, who only now has come out as gay, to accept two tickets to Palm Beach galas: one for himself and one for Nisenbaum.
The two would go to great lengths, however, to make it look as though they weren’t together. “They had pretty women on their arms,” wrote Post society columnist Jose Lambiet. “In pictures they never stood side-by-side.” But never mind all that — a Florida doctor? With a name like Nisenbaum? Is he Jewish? “I don’t know to what extent he is affiliated,” Lambiet told the Forward, “but I can tell you he took Yom Kippur off last Monday.”
