Obama Speaks

Well, the advanced transcript of Obama’s speech to Aipac leaders is in. For the full text, read after the jump. Over at TalkingPointsMemo, M.J. Rosenberg had asked before the speech: “Will this be his Sister Soulja moment where he tells a powerful interest group something it does not want to hear, specifically that as President he will embrace the role of honest broker and help Israelis and Palestinians achieve peace and security?”

In the end, Obama seemed to seize the middle ground between the Bush administration’s reluctance to play a central diplomatic role and those advocating for pressure on Israel.

Undoubtedly, some on the left are going to be upset with his negative take on the Palestinian unity government.

On the flip side, Obama seemed to take a subtle swipe at the Bush administration’s reported efforts to block Israel from opening peace talks with Syria.
