In a development that is sure to disappoint Jewish editorial writers the world over, the Oscar season’s two most closely watched and hotly debated Israel-themed films — “Munich” and “Paradise Now” — left Hollywood’s Kodak Theater unrecognized last week. But when it came to putting a Jewish spin on Oscar madness, host Jon Stewart did not disappoint. Below, a few of the “Daily Show” funnyman’s more memorable lines.
• After rap group Three 6 Mafia won best original song for “It’s Hard Out Here for a Pimp,” Stewart quipped: “You know what? I think it just got a little easier out here for a pimp. I think it did…. Now I know the Three 6 Mafia is gonna get into it with Itzhak Perlman’s posse. I know it. And then they have only one way to solve it: dreidel-off.”
• On seeing Ben Stiller appear in an exceptionally tight green unitard: “Good to have proof he’s Jewish.”
• And on the matter of Steven Spielberg’s oeuvre : “‘Schindler’s List’… ‘Munich’… I think I speak for all Jews when I say I can’t wait to see what happens to us next.”
