Prepent Day 19: True Friendship

Facebook changed the way friendships are forged and maintained. Hoarding aside, we know who it is we like or love; we know that we don’t need (and likely can’t support) so many people in our lives as friends. Quality over quantity. Can “friend” be, once again, a more exclusive title? There are acquaintances, colleagues, buddies and people we know — all worth being present and honest with, open heart and mind. But only with a few select friends, people who have really risen to this sacred role, can we focus, fail, flourish, be fully alive. I make a list today: inner circle. Top ten? Who is no longer on the list? Reach out one way or another. Just one good friend, mutually acknowledged, is really enough. Don’t have one? How will you help to make it happen in the coming year? Good luck and good love.
It’s our birthday and we’re still celebrating!
We hope you appreciated this article. Before you go, we’d like to ask you to please support the Forward’s independent Jewish news.
This week we celebrate 129 years of the Forward. We’re proud of our origins as a Yiddish print publication serving Jewish immigrants. And we’re just as proud of what we’ve become today: A trusted source of Jewish news and opinion, available digitally to anyone in the world without paywalls or subscriptions.
We’ve helped five generations of American Jews make sense of the news and the world around them — and we aren’t slowing down any time soon.
As a nonprofit newsroom, reader donations make it possible for us to do this work. Support independent, agenda-free Jewish journalism and our board will match your gift in honor of our birthday!
