We didn’t know how much truth we were telling.

This week we ran an article about Francine Prose’s new book on Anne Frank. We entitled Tova Mirvis’s review “Hidden Writer Revealed” because Anne Frank was not only famously hidden from the Nazis but because (certainly according to Prose) her literary talents have also been overshadowed by her historical context.

Two weeks ago, though, the Anne Frank House, on their YouTube Anne Frank channel, released footage of Anne Frank. Online (below) there is moving footage of her leaning out of the window hoping to look at a neighbor’s wedding. Anne Frank quite literally revealed. Totally inconsequential, of course, but astonishing — the specialty of the internet. Twenty seconds of must-see footage which will change almost nothing.
