The Space Force’s official song sounds like something Mel Brooks wrote
A lot about the rollout of the U.S. Space Force, the new branch of the military established by Donald Trump in 2019, was somewhat comedic. So much so that a Netflix sitcom with the same name emerged soon after — and beat the government to the trademark.
But after a few years in operation, Space Force has established itself as a legitimate entity and is now debuting an official song, “Semper Supra.”
It sounds … familiar.
The tune, whose lyrics speak of being “the mighty watchful eye/Guardians beyond the blue,” has the feel of a rousing Sousa march. It’s not exactly Francis Scott Key here, with lines mentioning how the force is made up of “Warfighters brave and true,” but it might be Corporal Melvin Kaminsky (aka Mel Brooks).
Maybe it’s the fanfare, the trilling, propulsive horns, or just the context of space, but when I hear of how the Space Force is “Standing guard both night and day,” I can’t help but think of how Jews in Space are “Zooming along protecting the Hebrew race.”
Here’s the Space Force theme:
Here’s the teaser for a segment from “History of the World Part II”:
I invite you to compare and contrast. The Jews in space would appear, with their Star of David ships, to have the Space Force outgunned at present.
But perhaps there could be an arms deal — we’re sure Space Force is eager to get their hands on Jewish Space lasers.
