A Sukkah, IMKHA, created by artist Tobi Kahn, for the Marlene Meyerson JCC of Manhattan is an installation consisting of 13 interrelated sculpted painted wooden panels, constituting a single work of art. The design of this sukkah juxtaposes elements of different scale, with the shape and shadow modifying each other to form an eloquent assembly. It was commissioned by Zelda R. Stern in loving memory of her husband Stanley I. Rosenzweig, who loved Sukkot.
This program is being sponsored by Zelda R. Stern in memory of her husband, Stanley I. Rosenzweig.
Co-sponsored by the Orange County Community Scholar Program and the Forward.
Prior to joining the MMJCCM, Rabbi Joanna Samuels was the founding executive director of Educational Alliance’s Manny Cantor Center, where she redefined the Jewish Community Center and the Settlement House for a new era. Her work at the Manny Cantor Center was written about in The New York Times, The Daily News, and The Jewish Daily Forward.
Tobi Kahn is a painter and sculptor whose work has been shown in over 40 solo exhibitions and over 60 museum and groups shows since he was selected as one of nine artists to be included in the 1985 Guggenheim Museum exhibition, New Horizons in American Art. Works by Kahn are in major museum, corporate, and private collections.
