N.H. Jews Raise Money for Cultural Center

The Jewish community of Bethlehem, N.H., will soon begin fundraising for a local Jewish cultural center.

The Bethlehem Hebrew Congregation, the town’s 92-year-old synagogue, would house the center, according to reports. The first stage of the project would be two temperature-controlled cabinets to house manuscripts and artworks.

The Conservative synagogue holds daily and Shabbat services from July to mid-October with a cantor in residence.

Fundraising will begin at the local Yiddish Culture Weekend in mid-August.

The resort town has been home to a Jewish community since the early 1900s, and the community grew in particular from the 1950s through the 1970s, according to the Boston Globe.
