Slingshot List Highlights Jewish Non-Profits
A mix of old and new Jewish not-for-profits have been named to the 2013 Slingshot guide, the annual list of innovative Jewish charities issued today.
Finalists among the 50 named groups included The David Project, the Israel advocacy group founded in 2002, and Jews for Racial and Economic Justice, the left-wing advocacy group founded in 1990.
Slingshot also released a handful of parallel lists, including one dedicated to Jewish groups working on disabilities issues and another for Jewish groups working on women’s issues. In all, 103 groups were included on Slingshot’s four lists.
Meant to serve as a guidebook for donors, a Slingshot award is often cited as a seal of legitimacy by small Jewish organizations.
Awardees on the central list of 50 groups include MyJewishLearning, the large and well-funded Jewish resources website, and Nehirim, the LGBT Jewish group. Yeshivat Maharat, the left-wing Orthodox rabbinical school for women, was named, as was the Yiddish Book Center in Amherst

I hope you appreciated this article. Before you go, I’d like to ask you to please support the Forward.
Now more than ever, American Jews need independent news they can trust, with reporting driven by truth, not ideology. We serve you, not any ideological agenda.
At a time when other newsrooms are closing or cutting back, the Forward has removed its paywall and invested additional resources to report on the ground from Israel and around the U.S. on the impact of the war, rising antisemitism and polarized discourse.
This is a great time to support independent Jewish journalism you rely on. Make a gift today!
