Chuck Schumer Brags On Hot Mic: ‘Trump Likes Me’

Chuck Schumer was caught on a live microphone boasting that President Trump likes him – another sign of a warming relationship between the White House and the Senate minority leader on important issues like the budget and immigration.

“He likes us. He likes me, anyway,” said the New York Democrat, talking into a hot mic on the Senate floor Thursday morning. Schumer went on to discuss a deal that he and House minority leader Nancy Pelosi cut with the president to extend protections to undocumented immigrants brought to the country as children.

Pelosi and Schumer have successfully persuaded the president to push a bill replacing the DACA program for undocumented child arrivals with a legislative solution. The two also convinced Trump to side with them on raising the debt limit and paying for Hurricane Harvey relief last week.

In the candid moment, Schumer also detailed a recent conversation he had with the president. “Here’s what I told him: I said, ‘Mr. President, you’re much better off if you can sometimes step right and sometimes step left. If you have to step just in one direction, you’re boxed.’ He gets that,” Schumer said.
