Israeli Dad-To-Be Beaten To Death In St. Petersburg

A 27-year old Israeli father-to-be died several days after being attacked on the street as he walked home to his St. Petersburg apartment, Russian outlet ‘Fontanka.ru’ reported.
Mikhail Verevskoy was coming home from the grocery store late the night of March 29 when he was attacked and brutally beaten, resulting in severe brain trauma.
According to Moscow’s Ministry of Internal Affairs, a 36-year-old suspect by the name of Ahmed Kharsha was detained and later released on bail. Russian authorities are continuing to investigate the incident and have not said if anti-Semitism could be the motive.
The Russian-born Verevskoy studied architecture and civil engineering in the St. Petersburg State University, and immigrated to Israel in 2010, where he served in the Israeli Defense Forces. Upon returning to Russia in 2012, he became an active member in the local Jewish community and in St. Petersburg’s Choral Synagogue.
He is survived by his pregnant wife.
