Jewish groups offer $5K reward for info on Althea Bernstein attack

Jewish groups have raised $5,000 to offer as a reward for information in connection to last week’s alleged attack in Madison, Wisc. on Black Jewish teenager Althea Bernstein, local TV station WISC reported Tuesday.

The money is being put up by Mizel Family Foundation and the Center for Combating Antisemitism, which is part of the pro-Israel group StandWithUs.

Bernstein told police last week that she was in her car near a local anti-racism protest when four men walked up and sprayed lighter fluid on her and then set her on fire while calling her the N-word. Bernstein reportedly suffered third-degree burns as a result. Madison police say they are investigating the incident as a hate crime.

Jewish groups across the country issued statements condemning the incident.

In addition to the $5,000 from the Jewish groups, another $5,000 reward is being offered by Madison Area Crime Stoppers, WISC reported.
