Poll: Men Like It Hot, Women Like It Nebbishy
Two of Great Britain’s leading Jewish pinup ladies took the lead in an unusual survey of British Jews, probing the weighty question of which celebrity they would most like to date.
Women, by contrast, tended to pick nebbishes and lovable losers, suggesting that in England, as in America, men are from Mars and women are from Venus — or perhaps more accurately, men are from Minsk, women are from Vilnius.
Taking first and second place in the men’s survey were Rachel Stevens, a London-born pop star and poster girl, and Caprice Bourret, a California-born swimsuit model who has spent much of her career in Britain.
Topping the women’s list were David Schwimmer, who played the beleaguered Ross Geller on the NBC sitcom “Friends,” and Woody Allen, the cinema’s nebbish par excellence.
Also on the men’s list were singer Lisa Loeb (who recently starred in a reality series chronicling her search for a worthy, preferably Jewish man) and actresses Rachel Weisz and Gwyneth Paltrow. Others on the women’s list included comedian Sacha Baron Cohen and actor Jeff Goldblum.
The survey was put to a total of 100 men and 100 women who were stopped at random on the streets of London’s Jewish neighborhoods. It was compiled by the U.K.-based dating Web site someonejewish.com.
Did you know that only 2% of Forward readers donate to support our nonprofit newsroom? That 2% make it possible for millions to read the Forward without a paywall or subscription — removing any barriers to the full and fair Jewish story.
But while the Forward is free to read, it isn’t free to produce. Big stories — like deep dives into the antisemitism data, political scoops or reporting trips to college campuses — take months of research and fact-checking. All while we keep you informed of what you need to know each day.
