Mom Moves In
Everyone has a Jewish mother horror story. Perhaps your mom set you up with an atrocious guy, made you eat chopped liver or, gasp, called you in the middle of a great date. Whatever your mother did, we’re pretty sure that Joan Rivers, Jewish mother and comedian, will top the list this year. In June, Rivers is moving in with her daughter Melissa Rivers, and Melissa’s hubby and son at their home in Los Angeles, according to New York magazine.
The potential fiasco will be filmed and aired in a new WE tv docudrama called “Mother Knows Best,” which will premiere in December. The station has released few details about the show, but we’re certain that kvetching, nagging and general outrageous behavior will ensue as they only can between the famous Jewish mother and daughter.
The idea for the show grew out of a phone call to Joan from Melissa, complaining that she missed her. But why the cameras? “I’ll do anything for money,” Joan reportedly said at a recent party in New York.
The two certainly have had their ups and downs (and nips and tucks) during their years on the air together. Joan and Melissa hosted pre- and post-award show red-carpet specials on E! for nine years, and later for the TV Guide station. More recently they appeared together on the second season of “Celebrity Apprentice,” which Joan ultimately won and Melissa left, screaming.
Their new show will start taping shortly after the release of a documentary about Joan’s life in the spotlight, called “Joan Rivers: A Piece of Work,” which comes out on June 11. The film premiered at a synagogue at the Sundance Film Festival last winter, to positive reviews.
