Yishay Montogmery wanted to spend Tuesday evening relaxing and strumming his acoustic guitar on the Jaffa waterfront. Instead, his evening turned a real nightmare situation.

When a young terrorist with a knife started attacking him, he didn’t waste anytime, he bashed him on the head with the only weapon he had available: his guitar.

“After I hit him in head, he started running away from me,” Montgomery told Ynet. But Montgomery kept running after the attacker, wielding his acoustic gibson as a weapon and yelling “terrorist, terrorist.” A few other people joined him and helped draw attention to the attacker who ended up being gunned down by the police.

That night, over 10 people were stabbed by the 22 year old Palestinian terrorist. One of the victims, American citizen Taylor Force, died from his wounds. Force, a veteran who served in Afghanistan and Iraq, was visiting Israel on a trip with his Vanderbilt University MBA program.

Pictures of Montgomery in his “TOOL” t-shirt, holding his smashed guitar quickly went viral, getting hundreds of likes and shares all across Facebook.

Ed Dvir, an American who saw Montgomery’s act of bravery on the news decided to start a GoFundMe page to help jumpstart his musical career. He’s already raised almost 6000 dollars for Montgomery. He is also trying to get in touch with Montgomery’s beloved band, “TOOL,” to try to arrange some perks and perhaps an iconic meeting.

He got his 5 minutes, or rather, 15 seconds of fame playing Guitar Hero on Israeli late night TV “Tonight with Guri Alfi,” were he spent a few seconds playing a special version of the popular Wii game “Guitar Hero.”

If you’re worried about Montgomery’s guitar by the way, have no fear. He’s already gotten two new ones. One from the music store “Halilit,” which is located right by the site of the attack. Famous Israeli musician Aviv Geffen also gave Montgmery a new guitar.
