What Miss Israel Was Up To at the Miss Universe Pageant
Miss Israel, Avigail Alfatov, didn’t make it to the top 15 in Sunday night’s Miss Universe Pageant.
In the grand scheme of things, that might not be such a bad thing. At least Steve Harvey never got the chance to confuse her with any other candidate..
But despite losing the ultimate title, our 19-year-old beauty queen and IDF air force soldier seemed to be having a blast in Las Vegas last week. And luckily for us, Alfatov is really active on social media, making it easy to live vicariously through her.
Here’s our nice Jewish girl posing with a Ferrari racing car at the Exotics Racing Event:
Alfatov got Miss Ecuador to wish us all a Happy Hanukkah:
She did a good job stretching those facial muscles with funny expressions before the show:
She had fun singing off-key to “All of Me” by John Legend with Miss Indonesia and Miss South Africa:
She stuffed her face with pizza after their preliminary show, because hey, she deserves it:
She kicked butt during the talent portion of the evening while showing off her awesome fencing skills:
Here she is swishing around beautifully in her national costume, made by Israeli designer Yaniv Persy! The unique headpiece was designed by Israeli hat maker Tami Bar-Lev.
Her other outfits were lovely as well:
She had a backstage love-affair with “Marvin Gaye” singer and nice Jewish boy Charlie Puth!
And met her new BFF (and possible clone), Miss Sweden:
At the end of the night, she congratulated the winner because, that’s what a mensch does:
If you’re sad about having to part from this gorgeous and charming young lady, don’t say your goodbyes just yet. The 7 times Israeli fencing champion is hoping to participate in the 2020 Tokyo Summer Olympics. Let’s hope we see her there.

In this age of misinformation, our work is needed like never before. We report on the news that matters most to American Jews, driven by truth, not ideology.
At a time when newsrooms are closing or cutting back, the Forward has removed its paywall. That means for the first time in our 126-year history, Forward journalism is free to everyone, everywhere. With an ongoing war, rising antisemitism, and a flood of disinformation that may affect the upcoming election, we believe that free and open access to Jewish journalism is imperative.
Readers like you make it all possible. Right now, we’re in the middle of our Passover Pledge Drive and we still need 300 people to step up and make a gift to sustain our trustworthy, independent journalism.
Make a gift of any size and become a Forward member today. You’ll support our mission to tell the American Jewish story fully and fairly.
