Obama Names new Jewish Community Liaison

The Obama administration reportedly is set to name Jarrod Bernstein, an official with the Department of Homeland Security, as its new Jewish community liaison.

Bernstein will replace Danielle Borrin in mid-October, Washington Jewish Week reporter Adam Kredo reported over the weekend on his blog. Kredo cited multiple sources with ties to the White House.

Bernstein is a deputy assistant secretary in the office of intergovernmental affairs at the Department of Homeland Security. He worked in several capacities for New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg before joining DHS, according to Politico.

Borrin has been the Jewish liaison for two years. She also serves as a special assistant in the office of the vice president and is expected to remain in that position full time, Kredo wrote.

Are you one of our 2%?

Did you know that only 2% of Forward readers donate to support our nonprofit newsroom? That 2% make it possible for millions to read the Forward without a paywall or subscription — removing any barriers to the full and fair Jewish story.

But while the Forward is free to read, it isn’t free to produce. Big stories — like deep dives into the antisemitism data, political scoops or reporting trips to college campuses  —  take months of research and fact-checking. All while we keep you informed of what you need to know each day.

Don’t just read the Forward — invest in it. Support our work today!
