Outrage Spreading Over Man Who Set Self Ablaze
Vandals set fire to the entrance of a branch of the Israeli Insurance Institute (Bituach Leumi) in Ramat Gan early Monday morning. The words “Price tag Moshe Silman,” were written on the wall, referring to the man who set himself on fire during a protest in Tel Aviv on Saturday night.
Shortly after midnight on Monday, the fire department and police were called to the Ramat Gan branch of Bituach Leumi, on Hashmonaim Street. Emergency services arrived on the scene to find the branch office’s entrance partly burned, and graffiti on the wall. Police have begun an investigation of the event.
Silman is suffering from second and third-degree burns on 94 percent of his body. Accoridng to Dr. Joseph Hayak, head of the burn unit at Sheba Medical Center in Tel Hashomer, he is still in very serious condition.
Silman, a 57-year-old Haifa resident, has had various issues with the National Insurance Institute over the years. On Sunday, protesters demonstrated in Tel Aviv, in a show of solidarity with Silman.
