A New York State of Mind

The Jewish experience in the Big Apple is the subject of “The Jews of New York,” a documentary premiering Sunday on New York Public Television (WLIW21). The film profiles individuals and institutions that have had a significant impact on life in New York City, including Cohen’s Fashion Optical, Katz’s Delicatessen and Russ & Daughters appetizing; former mayor Ed Koch; writers Joseph Stein and Sheldon Harnick, who penned the play “Fiddler on the Roof,” and banker and philanthropist Jacob Schiff. Narrated by actress Tovah Feldshuh, “The Jews of New York” is presented as a supplement to the national PBS series “The Jewish Americans.”
