Mark Cuban’s Dallas Mavericks Joins Boycott of Trump Hotels

Count Mark Cuban’s Dallas Mavericks in for the anti-Trump boycott. The National Basketball Association team announced this week that it would no longer book rooms at Trump hotels in New York and Chicago while there for away games, according to a report in Sports Illustrated.

In a Twitter comment, Cuban said the decision had been made months ago, in response to the candidate’s hateful rhetoric and the personal spat it kicked up between the two billionaires — Cuban, wealthy from the tech industry, and Trump, enriched by his father and the real estate world.

Two other teams — the Milwaukee Bucks and Memphis Grizzlies – also canceled their reservations at Trump properties, according to Sports Illustrated. Other teams have kept their bookings so far.

Donald Trump’s campaign might have been good for the media business, but it hasn’t been good for his own, as buildings take his name off the front and tourists refuse to stay at his hotels and resorts.

Three buildings on New York’s Upper West Side have removed his name from their facades. Meanwhile, he has struggled to snag guests at his new hotels in Washington, D.C. In response, the Trump Organization has started a new line of hotels that do not bear the Trump label, but rather the more anodyne ‘Scion’ name.

Cuban has reveled in the damage to Trump’s brand, even sending out a taunting Tweet over it in October.

“Every single @realDonaldTrump hotel and golf course is toast. Done. Over. Bernie Madoff now has a better brand,” he gloated.
