‘I’m Not Your Toy You Stupid Boy!’ The Israeli Eurovision Song Is A MeToo Anthem
Netta Barzilai is not your toy.
The 24 year-old winner of Israel’s “Next Star” competition will be representing her country in the 63rd Eurovision competition in Lisbon this Spring. And with an explosively ambitious song by Doron Medley and Stav Beger (who also wrote Israel’s last two Eurovision tunes,) the country is prepared for a triumph.
“Look at me, I’m a beautiful creature,” Netta begins, in between unapologetic chicken noises (it is Eurovision, after all.) She also references Israel’s claim to “Wonder Woman” fame, volunteers to take boys “down” and sings, to sum it up, “the Barbie’s got something to say.”
Say it, Netta.
Israel will first compete in Eurovision 2018 on May 8th.
