This Is Not Excellent: Mr. Burns’ Voice Is Leaving ‘The Simpsons’
The Simpsons has introduced us to some pretty unique voices over the years. Who hasn’t tried to imitate the raspy and evil Mr. Burns?
But as of this coming season, that iconic voice will no longer part of the show.
Harry Shearer is leaving ‘The Simpsons’ after rejecting a $14 million offer. Season 27th and 28th season will go on without Shearer, Al Jean, the Simpsons’ showrunner, told today.
And Mr Burns’ voice isn’t the only one leaving with him. The Jewish actor has voiced over 100 voices, including Mr Burns’ trusty assistant Waylon Smithers, the zealously Christian neighbor, Ned Flanders and his minister, Reverend Loverjoy as well as the creepily uptight principal Skinner, wacky Otto Mann and news anchor Kent Brockman (where will Springfield get their news now?!).
But don’t be sad, didly-oadly-didly, while these news are not so… excellent, your favorite characters are not leaving with him. Though, honestly, their voices will never be the same again.
“We do not plan to “kill off” his characters,” Jean told CNN, “but replace them with the most talented members of the voice over community.”
As for Shearer, he apparently left the show because he wanted to work on other projects, and the prolific 71 year-old actor, comedian, writer, director and musician has plenty up his sleeve, we’re sure. Perhaps a ‘Spinal Tap’ sequel?
