Amitai Intalled Three Months After Rioters Attacked Embassy

Israel’s new ambassador to Egypt has arrived in Cairo on Monday, Egyptian airport officials told the Associated Press. The ambassador arrived in Cairo, three months after rioters ransacked the Israeli Embassy in the Egyptian capital.

Yaakov Amitai, the new envoy, replaces Yitzhak Levanon, who was ambassador when the embassy was stormed during protests over the killing in August of Egyptian guards by Israeli troops pursuing militants who had killed eight Israelis on the border. Amitai, a fluent Arabic speaker who has previously served at the embassy in Cairo will join a small number of Israeli diplomatic staff still in Cairo.
