Second Poll Shows Weprin Trailing Race for Congress
A second poll has shown frontrunner Democrat David Weprin trailing Republican Bob Turner in Tuesday’s special election to fill the Congressional seat held by ex-Rep. Anthony Weiner.
The new Public Policy Polling survey shows Weprin behind Turner by 47-41%, the Daily News reported.
Another poll found a similar result last week.
Weprin, an Orthodox Jew, had been the overwhelming favorite to win the race for New York’s Ninth District, which covers parts of Brooklyn and Queens. But Turner has gained traction in the heavily Jewish district by linking him to President Obama and especially his perceived tepid support of Israel.
Ex-Mayor Ed Koch urged voters to support Turner to send a message of discontent to the White House.
Weiner resigned over the summer in disgraced amid a scandal over racy text messages he sent to women.
