Survivors Plan March To Back African Immigrants
Holocaust survivors in Israel will lead a march in support of African migrants.
The march, which will take place on Saturday, July 28, is being organized by Atta Buchman, the 65-year-old daughter of Holocaust survivors, and Oren Rimon, a 15-year-old who volunteers with migrant children, according to Ynet News.
Buchman moved to Israel from Lithuania 20 years ago, and now lives in a retirement home where she is cared for by Eritrean migrants.
“They are the best caregivers we have,” she told Ynet. “They have patience and a constant smile on their faces.”
Israel has been grappling with how to best handle the estimated tens of thousands of African migrants who have made their way illegally into the country in recent years. May have been deported this year.
Rimon and Buchman have been met with criticism from right-wing organizations. They are still looking for funding for the march.
