Forward Scoops Ippies for Investigation and Video

Forward journalists have won Ippies Awards for best investigative story and best video.
Frimet Goldberger won in the investigative category for her exhaustive probe of corruption and abuse in the Skver Hasidic community of New Square, New York.

Martyna Starosta was honored for her video ‘Shalom, Bloomingburg!’ which chronicled the ongoing dispute between a Hasidic developer and the residents of Bloomingburg, a small town in upstate New York.
“I’m so proud of these awards and what they represent: our commitment to serious investigative journalism and our embrace of digital technology to tell stories in innovative ways,” said Jane Eisner, Forward editor-in-chief. “Frimet and Martyna are creative and courageous journalists, and it’s gratifying to see them earn the praise of their peers.”
The annual Ippies, run by the Center for Community and Ethnic Media at the City University of New York’s Journalism School, honor the best work of New York’s independent and ethnic media. The awards were announced and presented June 11 in New York City.
