Boxer Dustin Fleischer Has Bar Mitzvah No. 2 on Masada
— Undefeated boxer Dustin Fleischer had a second bar mitzvah on Masada during a Birthright Israel trip.
Fleischer, nicknamed “The White Tiger,” was part of an Aug. 10-21 Birthright Israel trip sponsored by the Jewish Federation in the Heart of New Jersey, based in the central part of the state. He is the grandson of a Holocaust survivor.
“The service was incredible and brought tears of joy to people’s eyes,” the New Jersey fighter wrote in the Forward. “It was an amazing feeling and I was honored to be bar mitzvahed alongside the members of my Birthright group. Afterwards, we celebrated this rite of passage with a camel ride through the desert.”
Fleischer, 27, is a junior welterweight with a 6-0 record, including five knockouts.
He told the New Jersey Jewish News earlier this summer that he became interested in traveling to Israel after he attended a community Birthright orientation offered by the federation.
Did you know that only 2% of Forward readers donate to support our nonprofit newsroom? That 2% make it possible for millions to read the Forward without a paywall or subscription — removing any barriers to the full and fair Jewish story.
But while the Forward is free to read, it isn’t free to produce. Big stories — like deep dives into the antisemitism data, political scoops or reporting trips to college campuses — take months of research and fact-checking. All while we keep you informed of what you need to know each day.
