Ivanka Trump learned about her father’s decision to ban transgender service members from the military over Twitter, just like everyone else, Politico reported Sunday.
The president’s daughter and her husband, senior White House advisor Jared Kushner, were “blindsided” by the ban, according to Politico, which appeared to apply to currently-serving transgender members of the military.
The Pentagon later said that there was not yet any official policy change.
Ivanka Trump has voiced support for gay rights in the past.
“She’s in there doing what she can,” Trump family friend R. Couri Hay told Politico. “It’s unrealistic, unfair and cruel to expect her to change climate policy and pre-K and women’s issues in six months.”
