Zaro’s Kosher Certification Rescinded
Last year, the Forward reported on a brouhaha around ham-and-cheese sandwiches sold at a Zaro’s bakery location in New York — which was certified kosher. Zaro’s didn’t appreciate the coverage, to the extent that an attorney reached out to us to “clarify.”
The story got a coda last week; YeahThatsKosher reports that Zaro’s has “lost its hashgacha effective immediately from Rabbi Harry Cohen, chief certifier of OKS.”
Ironically, the de-koshering resulted not from treyf meat, but from Zaro’s refusal to eliminate dairy from its challah. Zaro’s was removed from the OKS website and is no longer certified kosher, YeahThatsKosher writes.
