WATCH: Tzimmes For Rosh Hashanah That’s Not Too Sweet But Oh So Tasty!

This article originally appeared in the Yiddish Forverts.

Tzimmes is a stew, often served for Rosh Hashanah, made of carrots, sweet fruits and vegetables; meat is sometimes added, as well. The dish is a Rosh Hashanah staple due to the tradition of eating sweet foods in honor of the new year. In this episode of “Eat in Good Health,” Rukhl Schaechter and Eve Jochnowitz show how to make two different versions of tzimmes, one with meat and one vegetarian, both with no added sugar or honey.
