List of World’s Richest Jews Offers Some Surprises
Israeli financial newspaper TheMarker came out today with a list of the world’s richest Jews, including New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, Russian mogul Roman Abramovich and Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg.
The list ranked the wealthy by sector and industry, with Oracle founder Lawrence Ellison earning the title of Richest Jew in the World with a net worth valued at $28 billion. The richest Jew in the media industry is Bloomberg with a net worth of $18 billion. Ellison also ranked No. 1 in the technology sector, with Zuckerberg coming in second with a comparatively paltry $4 billion.
Abramovich, owner of energy companies and England’s Chelsea Football Club, ranked first in the oil and commodities sector, with an estimated net worth of $11.2 billion.
Sheldon Adelson won the top award in the gambling and tourism sector, while George Soros was No. 1 in the finance sector. Australian property developer Harry Triguboff was first in real estate.
The list was compiled based on Forbes Magazine’s annual list of the world’s richest people. Most people on TheMarker’s list have business connections with Israel and are involved in some degree of philanthropy for Jewish causes.
The list, full of people who have no reason to ever sing the song “If I Were A Rich Man,” will doubtlessly be a magnet for curious members of the tribe, philanthropic institutes in search of donors and antisemites alike.
