Who’s Tops on Jewish Sexy-O-Meter?

Mirror, mirror on the wall, who’s the sexiest one of all? Well, according to the popular media, the answer to that question these days is the Jews. Whether you think of this as fetishism or not, it seems that many would agree with Details magazine that “America can’t get enough smoking-hot Semitic tush lately,” to put it somewhat crudely. And, of course, the sexiest of the sexy are Jewish celebrities.

Last year, GQ selected James Franco as “Leading Man of the Year” And the Shmooze reported not long ago that the same magazine named Mila Kunis “Knockout of the Year.”

So, is it any surprise that Jewish outfits themselves would also vote these two specimens of Semitic sexiness to the top of their lists? One such company is Jewcier, (a new Jewish online dating site that is a member of the Avalanche, LLC family of dating sites), which conducted a poll to determine the sexiest single Jewish celebrities of 2011. Is it any surprise that Franco and Kunis rose to the top of the male and female lists respectively? Franco was way out ahead (with 43.9% of the vote) of his closest competitor, Jake Gyllenhaal (25.6%). Falling much further behind these two were Joseph Gordon-Levitt,Shia LeBeouf, Sean Penn, Andrew Garfield, and Jonah Hill. Jeremy Piven also appeared on the list, but the menschy thing would have been to leave him off altogether, seeing that he garnered an embarrassing 0% of the vote.

Didn’t know Sean Penn was Jewish? Neither did we. It turns out his paternal grandparents were Jewish, and that is apparently sufficient to be subjected to the Jewish sex-o-meter. It certainly was enough for newswoman Katie Couric, who surprisingly showed up on the women’s list. Is the Presbyterian-raised Couric really Jewish…and single? “According to Wikipedia, Katie Couric’s mother was Jewish and her maternal grandparents were of German Jewish ancestry. Also, early this month, news reports stated that she broke up with her boyfriend of 5 years and that she was back on the market!” Shira Kallus, Relationship Advisor for Jewcier, assured us. So, there you have it on good authority.

Couric came in with a respectable 10.72% of the votes, ahead of Dianna Agron, Emmanuelle Chriqui, Sarah Silverman and Katarina Graham. But she and these other sexy singles were blown out of the water by the likes of Israeli supermodel Bar Refaeli and actress Scarlett Johansson, not to mention Kunis who was favored by 36.9% of the voters.

What made the male voters go for Kunis? “Perhaps it was the hot, Jewish girl on Jewish girl scenes that she shared with [the not single] Natalie Portman in last year’s Black Swan, that boosted Mila into top slot,” Jewcier suggested in its press release.
