Gilad Shalit To Report on NBA Finals

Former Hamas captive and recently discharged IDF soldier Gilad Shalit has just landed his first post-army job — and it’s a plum one.

A long-time sports fanatic (he’s especially fond of the Maccabi Tel Aviv basketball team), Shalit will be the new sports commentator for the leading Israeli newspaper, Yediot Ahronot. Israel’s Channel 2 News reported today that Shalit will write a regular column, and that his first one will be on the NBA championship.

The newly-minted journo is expected to fly to the U.S. very soon to cover the finals games between the Oklahoma City Thunder and the Miami Heat, which start today with Game 1 at the Chesapeake Energy Arena in Oklahoma City.

Shalit is also expected to write about the championship game of the Euro 2012 tournament. The Shmooze wishes him much success and hopes he’ll be able to focus his column on the soccer on the field, rather than on the ugly racism in the stands.
