Want to Date Jake Gyllenhaal? Gotta Go Through Mom.

Jake Gyllenhaal is a good Jewish boy.
Exhibit A: to meet his mom, producer and screenwriter Naomi Foner.
“I always bring my dates to my mother’s house for the first date,” your former fantasy boyfriend told Ellen DeGeneres on Monday. “I think that’s a good move.”
Really?
“My mother thinks arranged marriages actually might be able to work … in a good way. She thinks that if she picked for me that I’d do a lot better.”
Taylor Swift, whom Gyllenhaal dated in 2010, alluded to the actor’s mama’s boy complex in her song, “All Too Well”: “You used to be a little kid with glasses in a twin sized bed. And your mother’s telling stories about you on a tee ball team…”
I guess she didn’t pass the Jewish mom test. Don’t feel bad T — it’s a tough one.

This is a moment of great uncertainty for the news media, for the Jewish people, and for our sacred democracy. It is a time of confusion and declining trust in public institutions. An era in which we need humans to report facts, conduct investigations that hold power to account, tell stories that matter and share honest discourse on all that divides us.
With no paywall or subscriptions, the Forward is entirely supported by readers like you. Every dollar you give this Passover is invested in the future of the Forward — and telling the American Jewish story fully and fairly.
The Forward doesn’t rely on funding from institutions like governments or your local Jewish federation. There are thousands of readers like you who give us $18 or $36 or $100 each month or year.
