The so-called Trump ‘royal family’ (or at least, that’s how they’d like to see themselves), have been populating the news as of late with their risky fashion choices.

A couple of weeks ago Melania wore a dubious Zara coat to a Texas immigrant detention center with the words, “I Really Don’t Care Do U?”

And now, with what seems like a pretty classic Jewish American Princess move, Ivanka Trump has instructed her family to wear color-coordinated outfits to all their public events — yesterday, she and her husband Jared Kushner, along with their three children, donned matching patriotic Air Force One outfits on a flight to her father’s New Jersey golf club yesterday.

Ivanka may be taking a cue from Kate Middleton, the Duchess of Cambridge.

“It has been noted in various publications over the past few years that Kate Middleton, the wife of Prince William, makes sure to color coordinate all clothing she, her husband and her two older children, Prince George and Princess Charlotte, wear at public events, including when they arrive at destinations on royal tours,” wrote Martha Ross of Mercury News.

And Ivanka’s color coordination isn’t just about a good Instagram shot, clearly. As Emily Fox wrote in her recent book ‘Born Trump,’ Ivanka is “particularly attuned to…stagecraft”, to the importance of presentation. According to Fox, when Ivanka insisted on a parade down Pennsylvania Avenue for her father’s inauguration, so she could get her “princess moment,” one of her friends told her: “It’s an inauguration, not a coronation.”

Sorry, Ivanka, your kids are cute, but you’re no American princess. We are, thankfully, still a democracy. For the moment.
