Israeli security officials reportedly are concerned that the withdrawal of so much aid to the Palestinians could harm Israeli security.
Trump’s approach towards us Palestinians is not just about us. As devastating as his dismissal of our suffering is, it’s a harbinger of what’s to come
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu praised the United States announcement to halt funding to the Palestinian refugee agency UNRWA.
The Trump administration will cancel funding for a U.N. agency that supports Palestinian refugees.
The attempt to shut down UNRWA will only serve to fuel enmity between Palestinians and Americans, and embolden Israel to build more settlements.
The UN refugee agency for Palestinians, UNRWA, “perpetuates a status quo, is corrupt, inefficient and doesn’t help peace,” Kushner wrote.
The cuts in Gaza are “making an intolerable humanitarian crisis even more life-threatening,” said the U.N. Relief and Works Agency spokesman.
The State Department last month announced that it had put a hold on $65 million of the $125 million annual allocation to UNRWA.
With UNRWA gone or underfunded, many people will have nothing to lose. An uptick in violence is a certainty.
Around five million Palestinians around the Levant depend on UNRWA for public school education, health clinics, social services and employment.
