What’s better than maple syrup? As a Canadian, I can tell you, not much. Except maybe a movie about the theft of $18 million worth of maple syrup — based on a true story.

Jason Segel will star in this sweet (get it?) comedy, which will be directed by Seth Gordon. “Family Guy” writer Chris Sheridan will write the script.

The story is based on “The Great Maple Syrup Caper,” as it has been dubbed in the great white North, when millions of dollars worth of syrup were lifted from a storage facility in Quebec over the course of a year.

According to CBC, thieves made off with with the contents of 16,000 45-gallon barrels between 2011 and 2012. The sticky criminal mastermind, identified as 42-year-old Jean-François Bédard, was arrested in Montreal on September 17.

This project seems almost too good to be true.
