Miriam Adelson To Give $5 Million To Boost Gingrich
Miriam Adelson, the wife of billionaire businessman Sheldon Adelson, will give $5 million to a “Super PAC” supporting the presidential bid of former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, The New York Times is reporting.
Earlier this month, Sheldon Adelson — the chief executive of the Las Vegas Sands Corp., an ally of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, and a prominent Jewish philanthropist — gave $5 million to the same organization, Winning Our Future.
The second Adelson gift comes just days before the Florida’s January 31 GOP primary, in which the Jewish vote could help determine the outcome.
In Florida, Gingrich will vie for the nomination against former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney, whose lead in the statewide polls has disappeared in recent days, as well as former Senator Rick Santorum, and Rep. Ron Paul of Texas.
Miriam Adelson is an Israeli-born physician, who specializes in the treatment of drug abuse.
Last year, the couple gave $10 million to Taglit–Birthright Israel and $25 million to Yad Vashem, Israel’s Holocaust memorial museum.

But while the Forward is free to read, it isn’t free to produce. Big stories — like deep dives into the antisemitism data, political scoops or reporting trips to college campuses — take months of research and fact-checking. All while we keep you informed of what you need to know each day.
