The Israel Defense Forces arrested Mamun Ismyail Salame Stut, a Palestinian man who was released from Israeli prison in October as part of the Gilad Shalit prisoner exchange deal. Stut’s arrest makes him the first released prisoner to be recaptured since the prisoner swap.

According to an IDF spokesperson, Stut was arrested for being a security threat in the area of Dura near Hebron by the Golani Brigade.

Stut was originally arrested in 2002 and indicted on attempted murder, membership in an unidentified organization, assembling bombs and providing asylum. An Israeli court sentenced him to 38 years in prison. He was slated to be released in 2040.

Israeli security forces were pleased with the fact that until now none of the Palestinian prisoners freed in the Shalit deal returned to terrorism. A top IDF commander in the West Bank told Haaretz that the prisoners’ have returned to civic activity alone, and that the IDF has not noticed any terror-related activity.
