Justice Breyer Unhurt in West Indies Robbery
Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer was reportedly robbed last week by a machete-wielding man at his vacation home in an exclusive island in the West Indies, a Supreme Court spokeswoman told reporters Monday.
Breyer, 73, his wife Joanna and several guests were confronted by the robber around 9 p.m. Thursday in the home Breyer owns on the tiny island of Nevis, spokeswoman Kathy Arberg said, according to the Associated Press.
The intruder took about $1,000 in cash and no one was hurt, Arberg told the AP.
Nevis is the smaller of the two-island republic of St. Kitts and Nevis. It is known for plantation-style hotels and tranquil villas and crime is rare.
