Suspected Iranian National Maimed by Own Bomb in Bangkok
A man thought to be an Iranian national was maimed in Bangkok Tuesday, when a bomb he was carrying exploded. Thai police believe the incident was a botched terror attack.
According to reports, the suspect threw a grenade at a taxi after its driver refused to pick him up. When police swooped in to arrest the man, he threw another explosive, which, according to the Bangkok Post, ricocheted back at him and ripped off both of his legs. Five people were wounded in the attack.
Tuesday’s blasts come one day after terrorists targeted Israeli embassy officials in New Delhi and Tbilisi, Georgia. Tali Yehoshua-Koren, the wife of the Defense Ministry’s representative to India, was injured in the New Delhi car bombing, outside the Israeli embassy. The Tbilisi attack was thwarted, after an embassy official notified law enforcement about a strange object attached to the Israeli envoy’s car.
Last month, Thai police arrested a Lebanese man, and charged him with possession of a large amount of explosives. The United States and Israel had issued warnings of a possible attack targeting foreigners.
