Casino mogul Sheldon Adelson and his wife Miriam made a $50 million donation to the Adelson Education Campus in Las Vegas.
The donation will benefit the campus’ three Jewish day schools, serving some 600 students ages preschool to high school.
The gift was announced on Feb. 8, according to the Las Vegas Sun.
The Adelson campus was modeled after the Reali School in Haifa, which Miriam Adelson attended for 12 years.
“It was an institution that not only had high academic standards but also instilled values and friendships for life,” Miriam Adelson said in a statement announcing the gift. “A school, in my opinion, should always be about more than just grades and matriculation; it should also provide children with cherished memories and roots in a community. I’m gratified to see that the Adelson Campus now offers those experiences to its students, giving them a sense of belonging and personal history. With this donation, my hope is that the school will continue to be a home for generations.”
“We are grateful to the Adelsons for this remarkable gift,” Paul Schiffman, head of school, said in a statement. “The Adelsons have been very closely involved in every aspect of our school, and we have benefitted tremendously from their good counsel. Our ability to move forward without debt enables us to fulfill our educational mission with even greater freedom and imagination.”
